When I was four, my preschool class was introduced to music. We gathered on the floor around a string quintet. The musicians showed us their instruments, told us what makes each one special, and then played for us. Some of us asked questions, some napped on the floor. But one child thought that the light beam on the floor was the best thing going that day. Yes, that was me.
At 14, my neighbor who cared for me while my parents were out, took me over to her basement darkroom where I saw film for the first time. Watching an image come up in the developer, I was hooked. I went home and confiscated my father’s Nikkormat!
